If you are looking to purchase a puppy, then there are a few things you need to check off your list when looking for a breeder.
1. Are they registered with the official canine body (not MDBA, they need to be registered with an ANKC (Dogs Australia) affiliated body such as Dogs NSW, Dogs VIC etc).
2. Are they hip and elbow scored. No health testing, no sale. Ask for the results. 3. Do they offer a guarantee in writing (contract) - does your breeder guarantee against hereditary conditions? What is the recourse if your pup ends up with one of those conditions? At the moment, hip and elbow dysplasia, epilepsy, cardiomyopathy, renal dysplasia, OCD, as well as several others are prevalent in the breed. What will your breeder put in writing if your pup develops a problem?
That's the very basics. That's the first things I would ask if I was purchasing a puppy from anywhere.
BUT - feel free to contact me, ask as many questions as you like, we're happy to talk to you, even if you are purchasing a puppy elsewhere. We don't ask for deposits, nor do we try to lock you into a purchase, we just like to help people make an informed decision and are happy to share our experience with this wonderful breed. I know we are not able to fulfill puppy requests, but we are happy to try to help you find a breeder where you have the best chance at finding a Dogue De Bordeaux puppy that will give you many years of joy, not heartache. Big breed equals big vet bills. We would rather help puppy buyers find an ethical breeder, knowing that we cannot sell someone a puppy.
We could've closed this page but my personal aim is to ensure puppy buyers are informed and have the best chance at purchasing a puppy that will be happy and healthy, and live a long life.
Thanks,
Jo & Bry.
